There are quite a few D700 user guides on the market. I wanted one that would give me an authors personal experience and evaluation of the camera. This one came the closest to not being another "owners manual" type affair.
The authors go into deeper deatail on the cameras options and capabilities than other guides. It's worth the money if you want a better understanding of this very complex camera.

I purchased this book on the recommendation of several people on the Nikonians website. It is an excellent book and it has helped me gain valuable inside knowledge of my D700. While the supplied manual is in depth, Mastering The D700 is concise and to the point. I particularly appreciated the authors personal recommendations for D700 settings and the reasons why he used that setting. The color images of the camera menu as the author walked you through the various features of the camera were invaluable. I could easily compare the settings on those pages with the menu item on my D700.I will keep this book as a reference in my camera bag. I highly recommend this book to anybody that is thinking of buying a D700.

I consider this book a kind of a advanced manual for the nikon D700. Is it necesary? No. Would you get more knowledge about your camera after reading it? Probably, if you havent read forums and reviews about the D700 on the web.
What you will understand a lot better: the functions and variables available in the camera menues, things that in the manual are just barely described, if they are described at all. If you just moved from canon to nikon, you probably need it to understand the camera functions faster. If you just left your nikon D200 or D2x and bought this camera, you will do fine without the book. |
